On Thanksgiving day, the Salvation Army's basement fills with the smell of turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. Thanks to the effort by Soldotna Rotarians and Kenai River Interactors, those without get a home cooked meal. Every year, Soldotna Rotarians join together by cooking turkeys, corn, stuffing, and the rest of the fixings to support the efforts of the Salvation Army's outreach efforts. Together, hundreds of hungry people get a chance at experiencing a hot, home cooked meal. And, Rotarians get a chance to practice what they preach, service above self, by getting up early on Thanksgiving morning (some as early as 3 am to cook a turkey) to ensure that the food is ready for serving by 11am. It is always fun, and we can't wait until next year.
