Soldotna Rotarians joined forces to build planters for Ninilchik and Soldotna Senior Centers. This was a local project that required ingenuity and patience in order to get all of the supplies and coordinate with the local senior centers. They can now use these planters therapeutically as well as practically!
The Soldotna Rotary Club began brainstorming project ideas in 2017 for local needs and as hands on as possible. Past President Joe brought up a project that he had seen-planters in senior centers. There are numerous therapeutic and practical reasons why having planters indoors are beneficial. Senior gardening activities can be done all year long! In any climate or season, there are fun things to do indoors that involve plants of all kinds and flowers. Soldotna Rotarians built upon this idea with Rotarian Dave spearheading the construction in his garage. We are always looking at hands on projects that benefit others in multiple ways, and we are happy to have been able to provide this service to not just the Soldotna Senior Center but also to the Ninilchik Senior Center. We can't wait to see what they grow!
