Rotary Club Raises $200 Million for Polio Cure - In response to a challenge
grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Rotary Club raised
$200 million to fight polio. The money will go toward vaccinations in
countries where the disease is still widespread. The Gates Foundation
initially pledged $100 million in 2007 but raised that to $150 million when
the Rotary Club brought in $200 million, for a total of $350 million.
Partnerships with other groups can be an important way for health
fundraising organizations to extend their efforts.
